The North West coast of British Columbia has always been Judy’s home. She grew up on northern Vancouver Island and spent many years on Haida Gwaii. She paints in water colour, acrylic and encaustic.
The rugged west coast wilderness, the local character of coastal communities and the details of the natural world are Judy’s greatest inspiration. She enjoys the interplay between realism and abstraction within the natural world. Whenever possible Judy creates plein-air water colour paintings and then works up larger prices from those studies once she’s back in her studio.
She is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Island Illustrator’s Society. She is a published illustrator and graphic designer. Her first illustrated children’s cook “B is for Basketball” was published in the spring of 2011 and has since been used as a “Welcome to Kindergarten” book across Canada. She has received numerous commissions from school districts for picture books, posters and literacy projects.
